History and purpose of the Proclamation on the
family
The Family, A Proclamation to the
World was presented at the Women’s meeting of General Conference on September
23, 1995, by President Gordon B. Hinckley. As he spoke to the sisters, he said,
“We commend to all a careful, thoughtful and prayerful reading of this
proclamation. The strength of any nation is rooted within the walls of its
homes. We urge our people everywhere to strengthen their families in conformity
with these time-honored values”. (Church
of Jesus Christ, 1995)

What this blog is
The goal of this blog is to
present lessons based on the Proclamation that can be used within the family to
teach principles to help your family endure. The lessons are adaptations of selected
chapters from “Successful Marriages and Families; Proclamation Principles and
Research Perspectives”. The book is a collection of essays published by Brigham
Young University as an in-depth study of the Proclamation.
As you study each lesson, see how you can share with your children and spouse the important principles in each. Those lessons will vary with the age and understanding of the children.
